Missing Scenes

This episode is one of a number in season five which were filmed for a broadcast length of approximately 44 minutes, but which were transmitted in edited form by UPN in order to slice two minutes off the running time. The transcripts below are of the scenes and scene fragments that are missing from that UPN broadcast, based on a comparison between the first airing on UPN and the full version of the episode. Please note that an entirely different set of cuts may have been made on subsequent repeats of the episode by UPN, and that syndication reruns seem to be showing the episodes intact.

Dialogue shown in italic type is only included in the full version of the episode. Dialogue shown in normal type is in both versions. Scene start timings are approximate, rounded up or down to the nearest minute, and are based on the UK PAL broadcast format (25 frames per second).

Mess Hall. 16 minutes.

[Ugh.] [It's a Talaxian theta radiation remedy.] [Once you get past the choking reflex, it's really not... it's really not so bad.]

Just prior to the away mission to the Malon ship, Neelix is busy whipping up a little herbal remedy to combat the theta radiation, apparently not entirely willing to trust to the Doctor's innoculation.

Neelix:

Ugh.

Chakotay:

Ready, Neelix?

Neelix:

Not quite. Do we still have a minute? It's just it's not quite strong enough yet. Ah. Would you mind passing me that little dish.

Chakotay:

Neelix, I admire your dedication. But the crew can figure out lunch on their own.

Neelix:

Lunch and dinner, and a midnight snack have all been taken care of. This is for me. It's a Talaxian theta radiation remedy. Crushed rama leaf and catillion clove. It helps fortify the cellular membranes.

Chakotay:

I think the Doctor's inoculation might be a better way to go.

Neelix:

Every little bit helps. Oh, by the way, thank you.

Chakotay:

For what?

Neelix:

For sending me on such an important mission. Not that my duties in the Mess Hall aren't challenging.

Chakotay:

It was an easy choice. You were the best man for the job.

Neelix:

Well, our scow once ran smack into a theta radiation field. Knocked the propulsion out. We had no choice but to sit there. We were barely alive when they found us. If it hadn't been for this, nobody would have survived. Ugh. Once you get past the choking reflex, it's really not... it's really not so bad. Want to try some?

Chakotay:

No. I'll take my chances.

Kim:

[Transporter Room 1 to Commander Chakotay. We're ready to proceed.]

Chakotay:

On our way.
