Missing Scenes

This episode is one of a number in season five which were filmed for a broadcast length of approximately 44 minutes, but which were transmitted in edited form by UPN in order to slice two minutes off the running time. The transcripts below are of the scenes and scene fragments that are missing from that UPN broadcast, based on a comparison between the first airing on UPN and the full version of the episode. Please note that an entirely different set of cuts may have been made on subsequent repeats of the episode by UPN, and that syndication reruns seem to be showing the episodes intact.

Dialogue shown in italic type is only included in the full version of the episode. Dialogue shown in normal type is in both versions. Scene start timings are approximate, rounded up or down to the nearest minute, and are based on the UK PAL broadcast format (25 frames per second).

Mess Hall. 18 minutes.

[That's four.] [Behold the wonder of the Modern World, Borg photographic memory.] [Sven 'Buttercup' Hansen?]

Neelix and Paris are trying to top each other with questions for their history pop quiz. Seven supplies an answer and asks a few historical questions of her own.

Neelix:

The temple of Artemis at Ephesus.

Paris:

That's four.

Neelix:

The Colossus of Rhodes.

Paris:

No. In chronological order.

Neelix:

Right, er... the mausoleum of Halicarnassus. The Colossus of Rhodes.

Paris:

That leaves just one more.

Neelix:

The seventh wonder of the Ancient World is...

Paris:

Ah-ha. Can't remember?

Neelix:

No, it's... right on the... right on the... tip of my tongue. Oh. Oh, forget it. I give up.

Paris:

Ha! I got you. It's the, um... er...

Neelix:

Can't remember?

Seven:

The lighthouse of Alexandria, built by Ptolemy II in 280 BC.

Paris:

Behold the wonder of the Modern World, Borg photographic memory. We'll call this one a draw.

Neelix:

Brushing up on Earth's history?

Seven:

Captain Janeway requested that I research one of her ancestors.

Neelix:

Shannon O'Donnell.

Seven:

You've heard of her?

Neelix:

Who hasn't? You mind if I lend a hand?

Seven:

If you wish.

Neelix:

Sven 'Buttercup' Hansen?

Seven:

He was one of my progenitors. A twenty-second century prize-fighter. The Captain encouraged me to investigate my genealogy as well.

Neelix:

Well, your ancestors can tell you a lot about yourself.

Seven:

Somehow I doubt Buttercup has much relevance to me.

Neelix:

The connection could be deeper than you think. Sven. Seven.

Seven:

A co-incidence.

Neelix:

The point is, there's some of him in you. Just as there is some of you in your descendants.

Seven:

If I choose to procreate.

Neelix:

Oh, I wouldn't dismiss it so lightly. Some day you might enjoy a little Seven of Nine point Five running about. Or not. Or not.

Seven:

My research has failed. I have found no references to this individual.

Neelix:

Well, genealogy's a lot like fishing. You've... you've got to cast a wide net. Uh, computer. Expand record search for subject Shannon O'Donnell to include non-Federation databases. Uh, personal archives and photographic indexes as well.

Computer:

Reference found.

Neelix:

Take a look at this. Shannon Janeway.
